Caves House - an iconic Blue Mountains hotel

Caves House is an icon of Blue Mountains accommodation.  In 1897, NSW Government Architect, Walter Liberty Vernon, designed and built it, as a wilderness retreat.  He used the alpine, picturesque  'Federation, Arts and Crafts' style. Caves House is on the NSW State Heritage Register

Within Caves House, there are 2 main types of guestrooms :

  • 'Classic', with Queen size bed and ensuite
  • 'Grand Classic' , with King Size bed and ensuite

Cave Tour Guarantee

As soon as you book accommodation, we strongly recommend you book and pay online for your preferred cave tour. But what if you forget? Don't panic! If you are staying with us, although our cave tours sometimes sell out quickly, you are guaranteed a spot on one of our cave tours on the morning after your stay - most likely a 10am Chifley Cave tour. When you check in, just pop into our Gift Shop to book and pay for the guest cave tour, and have an amazing underground experience.

Evening Cave Tours - Exclusive to Guests

Night owls who have booked to stay with us, will be happy to hear that an evening cave tour may be available. Sometimes, on Saturday nights we take guests on guided tours through caves that are not available to day-visitors. You can't book them online, but please ask when you check in at our Front Desk.  If an evening tour is available, simply pop into our Gift Shop after you check in, to book and pay.  Or if you phone before you arrive, we can check to see if an evening tour is running and you can book and pay.

Day-Breakers Wildlife & Nature Walk - Exclusive to Guests

Nuts about nature? Wild about wallabies? Is your mantra, "early to bed and early to rise..."? If you are staying overnight at Jenolan, book our new early morning 'Day-Breakers' guided nature/wildlife walk. Meet at 7:15, before breakfast, in Caves House foyer. We will take you on an eye-opening journey, above ground, to glimpse rare Brush-tailed Rock Wallabies, lyrebirds and more, in the wild. Wear non-slip shoes, hat and sunnies. Dress for possible light rain. Don't forget your camera! See more info here.

Our photos are an indication only

We must stress that in historic Caves House, every room is different - different shape, slightly different size, different view, different furnishings and colours.  Even window style, shapes and sizes vary from room to room. Some rooms even have bay windows - but only some.  As it is not practical to publish photographs of all 40 rooms, we hope that the images below give you an idea of the 'look and feel' of our rooms. But please do not expect to get a room that looks exactly like one of these photos.

Dinner and Breakfast

Currently, when you book a stay, dinner and breakfast are included in the price.

Unique Blue Mountains Accommodation

Our guestrooms in historic Caves House are old, and they take you back in time.  They have no telephones or televisions to spoil the experience and are decorated in a style reminiscent of the late Victorian or early Edwardian eras.

If you stay in Caves House, you will be only a minute's stroll downstairs to the magnificent Chisolm's Restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner. You will also be only a minute's stroll from Australia's most spectacular caves.

Please note that we no longer accept American Express.
