The Day-Breakers Wildlife Walk

The morning after you arrive, at 7:15am, before breakfast, meet your guide and other participants, in Caves House foyer.

NEW guided wildlife and nature walk - if you love bushwalking

We will take you on an eye-opening journey above ground, in the cool of a Blue Mountains morning.

You never know what you might spot. Jenolan has been a wildlife reserve for 100 years, so you might see rare (and adorable) brush-tailed rock wallabies in the wild. You might hear a lyrebird showing off its eclectic repertoire!

Bring your camera. Wear non-slip shoes, hat, sun-glasses but come prepared for possible drizzle.

Return to Caves House in time for breakfast and chat with Anne and other participants.  What a relaxing getaway - available only in February and March!

Wildlife Sanctuary since 1920

For generations, Jenolan has been famous for Australia's most spectacular caves, delicious food and wine and overnight stays in charming surrounds.  But it is not so well known that Jenolan has been a wildlife sanctuary for over a century.

The surrounding Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve teems with wildlife, mostly active in the early morning, before day visitors arrive for cave tours.

So now, for February and March only, Jenolan is offering this new guided above-ground wildlife experience, exclusive for overnight guests.

How to Pre-Book and Pay

The Day-Breakers Wildlife Walk must be booked and pre-paid separate from your accommodation booking. You can't book Day-Breakers online, but you have 2 ways - either book and pay in our Gift Shop, when you check into Caves House, or by phone before you arrive (as long as you have already booked accommodation). The cost is similar to an Orient cave tour, and includes a snack to tide you over until breakfast.

One last thing - this activity requires stillness, observation, listening and patience, so any child must be at least 6 years old.

Evening Cave Tours

Night owls who have booked to stay with us, will be happy to hear that an evening cave tour may be available. Sometimes, on Saturday nights we take guests on guided tours through caves that are not available to day-visitors. You can't book them online, but please ask when you check in at our Front Desk.  If an evening tour is available, simply pop into our Gift Shop after you check in, to book and pay.  Or if you phone before you arrive, we can check to see if an evening tour is running and you can book and pay.

Cave Tour Guarantee

As soon as you book accommodation, we strongly recommend you book and pay online for your preferred cave tour.  But what if you forget?  Don't panic! If you are staying with us, although our cave tours sometimes sell out quickly, you are guaranteed a spot on one of our cave tours on the morning after your stay - most likely a 10am Chifley Cave tour. When you check in, just pop into our Gift Shop to book and pay for the guest cave tour, and have an amazing underground experience.
